W-League vs. Tampa Bay at 5 p.m. followed by PDL vs. Ironbound Express at 8 p.m.
Virginia Beach, Virginia – The Hampton Roads Piranhas W-League and PDL squads will both be in action Saturday night at the Sportsplex for the last doubleheader of the season. The women’s team will host the Tampa Bay Hellenic at 5:30 p.m. in their last regular season home game, followed by the men’s team at 7 p.m. against the Ironbound Express from New Jersey. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
The Piranhas will be celebrating “Health and Fitness Night” at the Sportsplex. Each fan will receive a pass to bowl one free game at AMF Lynnhaven Lanes located at 2061 Lishelle Place in Virginia Beach.
Saturday’s Matchups
W-League Piranhas vs. Tampa Bay Hellenic, 5:30 p.m.
This will be the first meeting of the Piranhas and Hellenic this season. The Piranhas are 2-1-1 at home, scoring seven goals and allowing nine. Tampa Bay is 1-2-0 on the road in 2010, scoring one goal and allowing eight.
W-League Piranhas (2-4-2)
Hampton Roads is coming off a three-week break since their 4-2 win over Northern Virginia on June 19 at the Sportsplex. The team is led in scoring by forward Emily Kittleson with four goals and one assist in eight games. Kittleson scored three against Northern Virginia and was named to the W-League Team of the Week. Goalkeeper Victoria Johnson holds a 2.00 GAA with two shutouts in eight games. Kara Cooper and Kirby Stenard have also scored for Hampton Roads this season.
Tampa Bay Hellenic (3-3-1)
Tampa Bay’s last games included a home and home series with Atlanta June 12 and 19 which the Hellenic lost by a combined score of 9-0. Forward Chelsea Klotz leads Tampa Bay with five goals in seven games. Goalkeeper Ashley Baker is the third netminder this season and has earned a GAA of 1.333 is six games.
PDL Piranhas vs. Ironbound Express, 8 p.m.
The Piranhas and the Ironbound Express have met once this season, on June 2 in New Jersey, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. The Red and White are 0-4-1 at home in 2010, scoring four goals and allowing 11. The Express is 5-0-0 on the road scoring seven goals and allowing none.
PDL Piranhas (2-6-3)
The Piranhas are coming off a 2-1 loss to Bermuda on July 2 at the Sportsplex. Eight different players have scored for the Piranhas this season, led by Mamadou Kone with three goals, followed by Kevon Harris, Bryan Iotte and Devin Pierce with two each. Goalkeeper Tyler Benham has earned a 1.767 GAA in seven games.
Ironbound Express (9-2-1)
The Express leads the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division after twelve matches and is coming off a 3-1 win over Central Jersey on June 30. Ironbound will host second-place Reading AC on July 7 before traveling to Virginia Beach. Jerrod Laventure leads the Express in scoring with five goals and four assists, followed by John Sallhog with four goals and two assists. Keeper Ryan Meara has earned a GAA of 0.625 with six shutouts in eight games.
