5:30 p.m.

PDL Piranhas (1-0-0)

The PDL Piranhas had an impressive season opener against Fredericksburg on May 7, shutting out the Hotspur 2-0 at the Sportsplex. The fast-paced intensity the Piranhas showed during their last match was impressive. The Red and White pressured the Fredericksburg defense throughout the match beginning at the starting whistle.

The first goal came in the 26th minute after the ball was handled by a Hotspur defender in the box. Piranhas forward Amir Shihata and slipped the ball high over the goalkeeper’s right shoulder. The next strike came in the 73rd minute through a great combination play on the near side. Midfielder Denis Bardizbanian, who had just entered the match, accurately crossed the ball to the back post where forward Marcello Alves had no trouble heading the ball in for the insurance goal. Piranhas’ goalkeeper Dillon Brunk earned the shutout. The Piranhas outshot the Hotspur 14-9.
