CHARLOTTE AND W LEAGUE PIRANHAS FIGHT TO SCORELESS DRAW

The match was hard fought for the full 90 minutes with most of the play in midfield.  But the Piranhas’ (0-1-0) defense held fast, too. Charlotte (0-1-0) outshot the Piranhas 13-3 and Hampton Roads goalkeeper Victoria Johnson registered five saves.

“They outshot us in the last 20 minutes but we held together,” said head coach Wendy Waddell. “It was a good start to our season. We need some improvement but we’ll continue that improvement from here.”
The W League Piranhas travel to Atlanta on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff with the Silverbacks at Atlanta Silverbacks Park before returning for their home opener on May 22 again against Charlotte. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
