Tampa, Florida - The United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week and honored Hampton Roads Piranhas defender Rachel Gerdin as a selection. Gerdin was picked for her strong defensive performance in the Piranhas 0-0 draw with the Charlotte Lady Eagles at Charlotte Christian Stadium on May 14.
The 5-10, 22-year-old Gerdin is from Colorado Springs and played for the Colorado Springs United squad in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. She graduated from John Brown University in Siloan Springs, Arkansas where she played for three years. She attended Indiana Wesleyan University as a freshman. Gerdin has played every minute on the field for the Piranhas this season in the team’s three matches, recording three shots.
The W-League Piranhas will host the Atlanta Silverbacks on Sunday May 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader with the PDL squad who face Carolina at 8 p.m.
