W-LEAGUE PIRANHAS LOOK TO KEEP THE BALL ROLLING
Lady Piranhas Head North for Weekend Match-Ups

Virginia Beach, Virginia – After snagging their first win of the season, the W-League Piranhas head north for the weekend for two away matches. On Saturday, June 12 at 5:30 p. m. they will play a rematch with the Northern Virginia Majestics at George Mason University’s Robinson Field. They will kick off against Washington at the Freedom Future’s home field, the Maryland Soccer Plex at 6 p. m. the very next night.

The Majestics are 0-3-0, but have had some very close games with tough opponents. Before losing by one goal to the W-League Piranhas on Saturday, June 5 at the Sportsplex, they were edged out by the No. 1 ranked Atlanta Silverbacks by just a single goal just one week prior. Even though the scoring well has been dry since the beginning of the season and they have yet to find the back of the net, they have proven they can contend; Saturday night’s bout will give them a second shot the Piranhas.

Twenty-four and a half hours later, the Piranhas will face the Washington Freedom Futures (2-0-1) at their place. The Freedom Futures have a few scoring frontrunners; Omolyn Davis and Furtuna Velaj have two goals apiece. Davis and Julia Bouchelle lead the pack with seven shots on goal. Washington has only been scored on three times this season. Starting goalkeeper, Jacqueline Weiss holds a GAA of 1.120. Washington is currently in third place in the Northeast Division, while the Piranhas are tied for third in the Atlantic Division. Washington is set to play Long Island two days earlier on Friday, June 11.

On the home team, Kara Cooper has been a key component in the Piranhas’ attack, scoring two thirds of the Piranhas’ goals and contributing a team high of eight shots on goal. Victoria Johnson remains the leader between the pipes with 405 minutes, a 1.777 GAA, and 23 saves on the season. Backup keeper Whitney Beverly put in a solid shift last match as well. She was able to close out the nail-biter against the Majestics, notching her first 45 minutes of play this season.
The Piranhas have had recent success at home, scoring two considerable results against Atlanta and Northern Virginia. They now look forward to the weekend in hopes that they can keep the ball rolling against their opponents to the north. The W-League Piranhas will return to the Sportsplex on June 19 to take on Northern Virginia for an exciting third match.
