W-LEAGUE PIRANHAS LOSE TO NORTHERN VIRGINIA 1-0 IN THE 89TH MINUTE

Fairfax, Virginia – The W-League Piranhas (1-3-2) dropped a last minute heartbreaker to the Northern Virginia Majestics (1-3-0) Saturday night at George Mason University Robinson Field. The two teams faced off on June 5 at the Sportsplex with the Piranhas coming out on top by the same score.

The game was even for the first 88 minutes with each team getting good chances and opportunities to score. But in the 89th minute, Northern Virginia took a corner kick that the Piranhas were able to clear but the Red and White could not control the rebound. The Majestics gathered the ball just outside the right side of the 18-yard box, and sent the ball high over the defense where it was collected by Ashley Johnson and buried in the net. It was the Majestics’ first goal and first win of the season.

The Piranhas travel on to the Maryland Soccerplex outside of Washington on Sunday to challenge the Washington Freedom at 6 p.m. Hampton Roads will return to the Sportsplex on June 19 to once again play Northern Virginia at 8 p.m.
