HAMPTON ROADS PIRANHAS WILL PLAY 2009 HOME GAMES
AT THE TRINDER CENTER/FOSTER FIELD
Virginia Wesleyan College welcomes back the PDL and W-League Piranhas
Virginia Beach, VA – The Hampton Roads Piranhas announced today that both the W-League and PDL Piranhas will play their 2009 home games at The Trinder Center/Foster Field at Virginia Wesleyan College. The facility has a 65 x 120 natural grass pitch and the stadium seats 1,000-1,500. The College also hosted the Piranhas in 2004, 2005 and 2008.
JoAnne Renn, Athletic Director at Virginia Wesleyan, says, “We are pleased to once again partner with the Hampton Roads Piranhas in providing a quality athletic venue to showcase pro soccer in the Tidewater region. It’s a win-win situation for both organizations.”
Marcie Laumann, President of the Hampton Roads Piranhas is very pleased with the relationship with Virginia Wesleyan College. “Virginia Wesleyan College has always been a very important partner and fan of the Hampton Roads Piranhas and we are happy to be able to call Virginia Wesleyan home again this year.”
The Piranhas reached an agreement last winter to play at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex this season but due to a delay in planned improvements to Harold Heischober Field, including changing the facility’s pitch from grass to turf, the stadium is unavailable.
The PDL Piranhas will open their 2009 season at home on May 9 at 7 p.m. against the Virginia Legacy. The following Saturday, May 16, the teams will play a doubleheader when the W-League side opens its home schedule. The women will host the Northern Virginia Majestics at 5:30 p.m. followed by the PDL team vs. the Carolina Dynamo at 8 p.m. The W-League Piranhas play their first match of their 2009 campaign on the road May 8 at Charlotte.
