HAMPTON ROADS PIRANHAS READY TO KICK OFF 2009 SEASON
W-League Side Opens May 8 followed by the PDL Squad on May 9
Virginia Beach, Virginia – The 2009 Hampton Roads Piranhas begin their 15th Anniversary campaigns next weekend. To begin its 12-game regular season, the W-League Piranhas will travel to Charlotte to face the Lady Eagles on Friday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. The men’s PDL squad follows on Saturday night, May 9, hosting the Virginia Legacy at 7 p.m. at Virginia Wesleyan College. The PDL season includes 16 games.
Wendy Waddell returns for her second season at the helm of the W-League Piranhas and she will again act as player-coach with Jennifer Denkler acting as assistant coach. Jon Hall, the 2007 PDL Coach of the Year, will start his third season leading the men’s squad assisted by player/coach Steve Danbusky.
"The players, coaches and staff of the Piranhas have all been working hard to prepare for opening day,” said Piranhas President Marcie Laumann. “We are looking forward to kicking off our 15th anniversary season with some very deep rosters. We have players coming to the teams from seven different countries and five different national programs that will make for some very entertaining, high quality play in 2009.”
The W-League Piranhas faced off against Charlotte just once last season with the Piranhas losing a heartbreaker 1-0 in the 87th minute. The PDL Piranhas and the Virginia Legacy met three times in 2008. On May 17 and on July 18 the teams tied 2-2 and on June 14 the Piranhas came out on top 2-0.
General admission tickets for all regular season home games are $6.00. Season ticket Flexi-Packs are available including $65 for tickets to all PDL and W-League regular season games, $40 for eight tickets to any PDL or W-League match or $35 for seven tickets to any PDL or W-League match. Youth passes are available for just $15 for fans 15 and under. Season tickets do not include exhibition, U.S. Open Cup, playoff or championship matches.
