FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PDL PIRANHAS DROP PHYSICAL MATCH TO CARY 2-0
(Norfolk, Virginia) - The PDL Piranhas (3-3-2) suffered their first loss in five matches, falling 2-0 to the Cary Clarets (6-2-2) Sunday night at Foster Field.
Cary midfielder Kris Byrd found the back of the net in the 4th minute off of a throw in from defender Zach Bartnett. The Piranhas had a few chances to tie the game up. Midfielder Kyle Hartley hit the crossbar and it took a great save by Cary goalkeeper Bryan Newbold to keep Piranhas’ forward Charles Nweke from getting his first goal of the season. The first half ended 1-0. Two minutes before the final whistle, Cary forward Philip Wilson scored to put the game out of reach. Both teams recorded six shots in a match that was physical with 22 fouls called, 12 on Cary and ten on the Piranhas.
The PDL Piranhas play their next game Friday June 26th at 5:30 p.m. against FC Fredericksburg. This will be the opening game of a Friday night double header with the W-League side who will face Charlotte at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for both games and gates open at 4:30 p.m.
