“PDL PIRANHAS LOOK TO PLAY SPOILER IN LAST GAME OF SEASON”
Last match against Northern Virginia kicks off Saturday night at 7 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 21, 2011

Virginia Beach, Virginia – As the season draws to a close, the PDL Piranhas have a huge opportunity to blast Northern Virginia’s playoff hopes right off the Sportsplex pitch. Virginia Beach won’t advance to post season play this year but can make life miserable for the South Atlantic Division’s number 2 team with a win. And it’s not out of the realm of possibility. The teams met on July 8 at the Plex and the Royals (9-5-1) barely survived with a last-minute 1-0 win over the Piranhas (3-9-3).

Carolina is now in first place in the Division with 31 points after knocking West Virginia out of playoff contention Thursday night. The Dynamo have one game remaining and will face Real Maryland (23 points currently) on Saturday to finish their season and with a win would finish six points ahead of Northern Virginia (28 points currently) if the Royals lose to the Piranhas. Real Maryland can finish in second place if they win both of their remaining games – against Carolina on Saturday and Fredericksburg on Sunday. The Monarchs would finish with 29 points, knocking the Royals out of post-season by a single point. The season closes for all PDL teams on Sunday.

"We want to thank our fans who have been very supportive during this entire season,” said Piranhas head coach Cesar Rizzo. “It is our last match and we are playing at home. We want to finish on a winning note for them.”

Saturday will be $1 Hotdog Night at the Sportsplex. And at halftime, the Dragon Force Karate School will be doing a show for the fans. Tickets are $8 at the gate and gates open at 6 p.m.
